The Library is located on a 30-acre site on the University of Texas Campus and is of a modern and monolithic design. The ten-story building is notable for its unadorned travertine exterior. However, inside is the Great Hall, which features a ceremonial staircase and a five-story, glass-enclosed view of the archives collection.
Besides preserving the memorabilia and papers of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, the Library and Museum was established to make these items available for research. It was the wish of President Johnson for visitors to gain a better understanding of the Presidency and get a clearer view of what this nation tried to accomplish in this eventful period of history.
